OUR LEADERSHIP

Lead Pastor, Rev. Edwin Collado

edwinc@redeemerchurchmiami.org

Our pastor is a 'homegrown' product of our beautiful city. Edwin's parents (Elias and Teresa) arrived in Miami in 1972 with a baby boy in their arms as they fled the communist regime that had taken hold of Cuba. Settling first in Hialeah and then in Little Havana, the family attended First Spanish Presbyterian Church. Edwin was a student at the on-site Christian school named 'La Progresiva.' After graduating in 1990, he headed north to the small town of Pella, Iowa, to attend Central College. Having graduated with a B.A. in religion and a minor in psychology, Edwin returned home, where he served four years as a campus minister at the University of Miami's Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, a national collegiate ministry serving countless campuses across the nation. It was during this time that he began working on a master's degree in social work. Edwin stepped into this field through a program called "Independent Living," dedicated to enabling foster children to step out on their own, provided their grades and work situations were stable. He was simultaneously serving as a volunteer coordinator for the youth/young adult ministry at Palmetto Presbyterian Church, where his father was now pastoring.

After three years in social work, Edwin became the youth pastor at a Presbyterian church in the Kendall area, where he served for eight years. Throughout this time, he continued to volunteer in coordinating the youth/young adult ministry at Palmetto Presbyterian Church, served for over a year as the Interim English Ministry Pastor of Korean Presbyterian Church in North Miami, and was the founder of the PYG (Presbyterian Youth Gatherings) conferences for the Presbytery of Tropical Florida. He led the latter for two years and involved over 200 youth.  Then Edwin stepped away to answer God's call upon his life to pursue an MDIV degree, which would allow him to be a Minister of the Word and Sacrament. Much to the relief of his wife, Tara (who loves the Sunshine State and is not very fond of cold weather!), they decided to attend Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida. After three and a half years in seminary, Edwin and Tara returned to the city they have a strong connection to in order to share the good news of Jesus Christ with all those whose paths they cross. They are thrilled to have returned home to serve the Lord in Miami, and invite you to partner with them in extending the hope of Christ to a city we all love!

Elias attended Miami-Dade College before graduating from St. Thomas University in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in science and a minor in spanish. He worked in the business community for a number of years before attending McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his Masters of Divinity degree. While in seminary in the Windy City, Elias served as the interim pastor (1991-1994) at First Spanish United Church of Christ. He has served as the Senior Pastor of Palmetto Presbyterian Church for the past 15 years.

Worship Leader, Tara Collado

Tara Collado was born and grew up in our beautiful Sunshine State.  She has been singing in church since she was a little girl. Inspired by her school teachers and the music directors at her congregation, she decided at a very early age to truly hone this craft and use her talents for the Lord. During high school, Tara began to sing and play keyboard as part of her church's worship team. By the end of her secondary school years, she was already leading worship during the school's chapel time. Tara went on to pursue her passion at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. While at UM, she was engrossed in choral music and studied private voice.  She also participated in University Baptist's Miami Christmas Pageant two years in a row.

After graduation, Tara went on to be an elementary music teacher in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools System. She worked for three years at a church in Kendall as a member of their worship team and eventually took on the leadership role. When Edwin and Tara moved to Orlando to pursue his seminary education, she taught middle and high school chorus at a Christian school in Oviedo, Florida.  She also served as the worship leader at River Oaks Church. Presented with an opportunity to become a performer at Orlando's Holy Land Experience, she spent two wonderful years there before coming back to Miami with her husband to begin their ministry in the city they love very much. In her current role as worship leader at Redeemer, Tara feels it is a privilege to lead God's people in song, and she delights in the weekly opportunity to move the congregation closer to the throne room of God through prayer, worship, and praise.

Student Pastor, Ricky Muñiz

rmuniz@redeemerchurchmiami.org

Ricky was born in Anchorage, Alaska where he spent a very frigid (!) first 9 months of life before moving to the very tropical and much warmer city of Miami, where he has lived ever since. He was blessed to have been raised in a church where Pastor Edwin served as his Youth Pastor for over 5 years.

At Coral Reef Senior High School, Ricky took on a variety of leadership roles where he began to discover his passion for serving others. However, it was during the summer of 2011 as he was preparing himself to head off to college, while attending the Student Life youth conference in Daytona Beach, FL, that he realized God was calling him to a life of ministry in the city that he loves.
Ricky spent the next year exploring this call to ministry as an Intern at Redeemer Church Miami. Throughout his internship he was exposed to the coordination, preparation and leadership required in every aspect of the church’s ministry. At the end of His internship, He was excited to serve as the Youth Pastor for Redeemer Church Miami--a ministry which he has grown to love deeply and greatly appreciate. Recently, Ricky has transitioned to be the Student Pastor at RC. He now creates the programming and curriculum for the RCKIds ministry as well s the RC Youth Ministry. Working along a team of coordinators for both the 10 and 12 pm ministries, Ricky, continues tor respond faithfully to God's call to ministry upon his life.

Ricky believes wholeheartedly that this particular generation of youth which walks the halls of our churches are vital to the building of God's Kingdom in our city and, therefore, he does not take his position lightly. Currently, Ricky is working towards his bachelors degree at Trinity International University, where he is majoring in Religious Studies.

Ricky has committed his life to revolve around the statement John the Baptist makes in regards to Christ: "He must become greater, I must become less." (John 3:30) May this truth always be so in Ricky’s life!

Antoin is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu where he received an associate’s degree in culinary arts. Antoin delights in dedicating time to his church and is always seeking that one on one time daily with the Lord. He strives to live by Jesus challenge of seeking the Kingdom of God ‘first,’ because God promises that the rest will be ‘added onto us.’ As the sound technician at RCMiami, Antoin enjoys giving people the chance to experience Gods love and presence through the gift of sound.

Administrative Assistant, Wendy Effio

wendye@palmettopresbyterian.org

Wendy Effio was only eight months old when she arrived in Miami, FL from Lima, Peru with her parents.  During a difficult point in her family’s life, her mother started attending Palmetto Presbyterian Church, sister ministry to RCMiami. Shortly after, Wendy was enrolled in the summer camp program and quickly began attending the church, which became her second ‘home.’ Raised in this Gospel-centered church, Wendy came to know Christ during a youth retreat in 2011. Wendy currently serves as the church, pre-school and school office administrator and attends Miami Dade College. Her desire is to graduate with a degree in Psychology, apply Christian principles to this discipline and one day use this combination to help teenagers experiencing many of the same difficulties she did when she was that age. Wendy uses her deep love of and faith in Christ, talents and, will use, her career choice to help impact the parents, children and teenagers her job brings her into contact with. Wendy hopes to continue to grow as a strong woman in Christ through serving in the church ministry and deepening her personal devotion to Christ. The bible verses she holds close to her heart is 1 Chronicles 16:11; “Look to the lord and his strength; seek his face always.” Amen!
